Down on the farm
The Community Harvest Project at the Brigham Hill Community Farm is hosting an open house Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. I’ve always been curious about the place, so I’m going to stop by to check it out.
Here’s a sneak preview, or a look at the farm if you can’t make it:
My son and his fifth grade class were there last week to help plant crops. He was a little leery of it — a friend who had went the day before told him he would have to dig “like, a hundred holes” — but he was very enthusiastic by the end of the day. He helped plant winter squash, he said.
His squash, along with other crops grown on the all-volunteer farm, will be donated to hunger relief organizations around Central Massachusetts. You can find out more here.
Schedule for Saturday:
10 a.m.-noon Planting demonstrations
noon-1 p.m. Video presentations, Q&A with staff
10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tours of the farm, green house and farm machines
