Is the Grafton & Upton Railroad making a comeback?
I’ve been looking for an excuse to post one of the many YouTube videos of trains passing through Grafton. (There’s actually several people posting them, which I find fascinating.) It’s actually topical because tonight, state Sen. Edward Augustus Jr. will be hosting a public hearing at 7 p.m. in Upton Town Hall to discuss the possibility of new rail activity on the Upton & Grafton Railroad.
The line, which runs from North Grafton to Milford through Upton, may be used to run freight by Marlborough developer Jon Delli Priscoli, who acquired a 50 percent stake in the railroad earlier this year. (You can read about it in my colleague’s story from back in March.)
Augustus will be bringing along state Rep. George Peterson Jr., officials from Grafton and Upton, and Undersecretary of the Executive Office of Transportation Tom Cahir. If you have any concerns about the railroad making a comeback — and with gas prices this high, it’s probably a sure thing — you should probably go and make your voice heard sooner rather than later.
