South Grafton, you have books!
While I was turning in my cable box today (FiOS!), I remembered a rumor about a new book store opening up in South Grafton. The person who told me about it wasn’t sure what kind it was, so I was hoping it wasn’t going to turn out to be a Christian or New Age kind of thing.
Much to my delight:
Yes! It’s an Annie’s Book Stop!
If you’re not familiar with Annie’s, they’re a chain of used book stores that started in New England in the 1970s. They both buy and sell used books and also carry new best-sellers.
I love used book stores since I’m kind of an addict when it comes to books. My husband finally got me to agree to buy a new house by whispering “floor to ceiling bookcases” in my ear. But even with the office library, I still have to occasionally winnow out the old to fit in the new.
The new Annie’s in is the little strip mall at 3 Greenlawn Ave., just off 122A. Mark Boulanger, who was manning the desk, says the business is a family affair — his mother had long wanted to open a book store and was an Annie’s fan.
The store itself is lovely.
Nice and spacious, and a decent selection for such a new store. Boulanger said they were able to buy up stock from closing stores and other sources and expects more to come in as customers bring in their gently used goods.
I took a look at the science fiction section — that’s how I tend to judge a book store — and there was decent shelf space set aside. Right now it’s kind of heavy on Star Trek and Star Wars, but Niven, Heinlein and other masters were well-represented.
There was also a nice selection of young adult books and an area for children’s books that was nicely situated near adult titles — mom or dad can browse for themselves while keeping a close watch on the younger reader!
I left promising to return with books and more time to browse. And there’s a coupon in today’s Grafton News!

Thanks for checking it out! We are definitely going to stop by this weekend. I couldn’t read the sign as I was driving by, but am very happy to see that it is an Annies Bookstop. Those are such fun to browse in.
Great news! I love to read, and it’s wonderful to learn of this bookstore. Like you, I value a bookstore for its science fiction section. Sounds like a winner. Thank you for posting this with photos.
